Artist’s statement:
What can be more exhilarating than to create something out of nothing? Working on the potter’s wheel is both challenging and therapeutic. For me, art cleanses my soul and opens my mind to bigger and better things.

About Renate:
I started pottery classes at the College of the Arts in 1995. In 2004 I started my own home pottery studio. I mainly do wheelwork and carving on slabs of clay. I experiment with my own glaze mixes, terra sigillata washes and pit firing with natural colorants such as stable bedding, seaweed, coffee grind and various salts. I took part in various PAN Biennale exhibitions and also a student pottery exhibition. I relocated to Luderitz at the beginning of 2021, where I will continue to teach pottery in my new studio.
